Val’s Aussie Open Play - Quarterfinals (Day 1)

We were looking good after the first set as Andreeva took it 6-4 but it was all down hill after that as the 16 year old faded and lost in 3 sets. Today we have a play on the men's side.

German A. Zverev takes on Britain's C. Norrie in the quarterfinals of the Aussie Open tonight. Norrie beat our pick C. Ruud 2 days ago to reach the quarters, as I mentioned in my recap of that match, Norrie probably shouldn't been in this match as he was outplayed by Ruud in every measurable of the match, however, Ruud could not convert the majority of his break point opportunities. Norrie for his part did take advantage of his break points and won. Zverev did not have an easy go at it in his 1st & 2nd round matches as he needed 4 sets to beat fellow German D. Koepfer and then needed 5 sets to beat the Slovakian L. Klein. However, Zverev did bring it all together for his 3rd round match versus American A. Michelsen dominating from the beginning and never looked back. He won 79% of his first serves, hit 11 aces and converted 50% of his break points. Zverev is 4-2 versus Norrie in his career, however, the 2 losses date back to 2013 & 2014 when they faced each other on the Challenger Tour. On the ATP Tour, Zverev is 4-0 versus Norrie and has never dropped a set in any of the wins. I like Zverev -1.5 sets tonight.
