Philadelphia Phillies +111
The Phillies look to avoid the sweep versus the Giants this afternoon. It will not be an easy task as the Giants send C. Rodon to the mound, however, the Phillies are a very good hitting team versus left handed pitching and see this as winnable game for them. Phillies starter R. Suarez has pitched very well on the road this season posting an ERA of 2.54 and the Phils have won 9 of his 12 starts. This is a situational play for me on the better team at plus money trying to avoid being swept.
Boston Red Sox -1.5 +157
Just like backed the Red Sox against D. Keuchel 2 days ago, I will be backing them again today versus Rangers’ pitcher in D. Dunning that just cannot get it done on the road this season. The Rangers are 1-11 in his 12 road starts where his ERA is 5.25 and his WHIP is a paltry 1.63, therefore, it isn’t surprising that the Rangers have trouble winning his road starts. Dunning made a home start (where he pitches much better) versus the Sox earlier this season and he got tagged for 5 runs in 5 2/3 innings, I expect things to be similar today at Fenway in a Red Sox multi run victory.
St Louis Cardinals -1.5 +112
Yesterday I gave you stats on how bad S. Manaea was versus the Dodgers, well today we another pitcher with the same type of problem, this time it’s versus the Cards and it’s M. Stroman. Stroman will be making his 4th start versus the Cards and here are the numbers; 0-3 with 17 earned runs in 15 2/3 innings and a WHIP of 1.85. Cards starter M. Mikolas has benefited from great run support this season and that should continue today as the Cards clearly own Stroman this season. Cards win big.
New York Yankees -1.5 +142
The Yanks try to avoid the sweep versus the Rays and their once thought insurmountable lead in the AL East is getting smaller day by day. The Rays are only 4 games back while the Jays are 6. The Yanks send F. Montas to the mound to face S. Armstrong; this will be a bullpen game for the Rays as Armstrong will go max 2-3 innings depending on his pitch count and early success. Montas made 2 starts for the A’s earlier this season versus the Rays and pitched well giving up 1 earned run over 13 1/3 innings pitched. If the Yanks provide him with a decent amount of help offensively they should be able to avoid the sweep and win by multiple runs.
