The Marlins and Reds play G2 of this 3 game series tonight in Miami, the Reds took game 1 last night, as H. Greene dominated the Marlins over 6 strong innings. Tonight we will see G. Ashcraft versus B. Garrett on the mound. Like many rookies before him Ashcraft struggles to find success pitching on the road, his road ERA is well over 6 at 6.66, he’s also struggled over the last month or so with an ERA of 6.45 over his last 7 starts. The Reds started clearing house with the departures of L. Castillo and T. Pham with possibly more trades to come today. The Reds are starting tank mode and it starts tonight versus the Marlins.

St Louis Cardinals -1.5 +127

The Cards host the Cubs tonight for the start of a 3 game series. It will be K. Thompson versus A. Wainwright on the mound, not much to say here that I haven’t said in the past, backing Wainwright at home is always a good idea as his home ERA is 2.01. Today is trade deadline day in MLB, yesterday the Cubs traded probably their best reliever this season in Z. Effross to the Yanks and I expect them to trade their 2 best offensive players in I. Happ and W. Contreras as some point today which will definitely weaken their lineup. The Cards will take advantage of a depleted Cubs lineup today.

Texas Rangers -1.5 +167

The Rangers look to even this series at a game apiece tonight versus the Orioles. The Orioles finally did it yesterday; they traded their longest tenured player on the team in T. Mancini to the Astros. Yesterday must have been a bitter sweet day for him, as he will be making the playoffs this season but he’s also leaving the only franchise he’s ever played for. Tonight it will be J. Lyles versus S. Howard on the mound, Lyles has been terrible on the road this season sporting an ERA of 6.12 and the Orioles losing 8 of his 12 road starts. For the Rangers, yes Howard’s ERA is 5.74, however, he’s fared much better pitching at home where his ERA is 2.70, I like the Rangers to rough up Lyles and win this game by multiple runs.
