The Cubs host the Cardinals tonight, the Cubs are just playing out the season but clearly can play spoiler in their division as they just gave the Brewers a hard time over the weekend and will look to do the same versus Cardinals to start the week. It will be J. Montgomery versus D. Smyly on the mound. Montgomery has pitched very well since joining the Cards, however, all 3 of his starts were at home, tonight is his first on the road and he has struggled to win on the road this season. The Cubs are playing well winning 7 of their last 10 and I like them at home at this price versus a pitcher who struggles to win games on the road.

New York Mets -1.5 +107

A crucial subway series starts tonight when the Yanks host the Mets, the Mets have seen their division lead dwindle down to under 5 games while the Yanks are struggling to win games in August. Tonight the Mets will send one of their 2 aces in M. Scherzer to the mound to face D. German. Scherzer continues to dominate and the way the Yanks have been hitting of late, he should be able to limit their scoring chances. German has been average since joining the rotation and I don’t like his chances versus the Mets lineup that has been scoring runs as of late.

Miami Marlins -1.5 +127

Two very bad teams face off tonight in Oakland, as the A’s host the Marlins. The Marlins send E. Cabrera to the mound to face A. Oller. Oller has not pitched well at all this season, he’s sporting an ERA of 7.24 and a WHIP of 1.69, even a struggling offense like the Marlins should be able to tag him tonight. For the Marlins, outside of 1 bad start Cabrera has pitched very well, he is 4-2 with an ERA of 1.78. 3 of his 4 victories have been by multiple runs, so even though the Marlins offense isn’t rolling, the combination of Cabrera pitching well and Oller doing the opposite confirms my choice with the Marlins on the run line.
