OVERALL RECORD: 115-116-4, -2.04u
RECAP: Yesterday was a great day, as we add 1.55u onto our total for the year in the MLB, and we’re just under .500 for the season so far. We’re getting the juices flowing though, as we actually picked all four winners correctly, but the Padres couldn’t scoot across one more run. We’re on a nice run right now, and we’ll see what today has in store for us in the MLB.

June 25th, 2024

My friends, today we venture out into a land that MLB Bet of the Day has never ventured out to… and it’s because we, potentially, have the two Cy Youngs facing each other off in a pitcher-friendly ballpark.

Ranger Suarez is taking on Tarik Skubal inside Comerica Park in Detroit, in the second game of their series. Yesterday, Casey Mize was lit up in the beginning of the game and the Phillies never looked back, with Aaron Nola keeping the Detroit offense at bay throughout the game. We’ve never done this before in MLB Bet of the Day, but it’s true what they say about MLB of the Day: it’s my favorite bet of the day. And today, this is my absolute favorite bet of the day, and we already have two Sharp Coaches on it.

The bet of the day is what we call a NRFI, or a “No Run First Inning” – I got it for -132 on FanDuel, and most sports books have it around that price as well. If that’s too juiced for you, I understand; but let’s dive into why we’re just looking at the first inning during this pivotal game two.

These two pitchers are two of the most gifted pitchers on the planet right now, and they tend to get off to hot starts. Ranger Suarez has allowed five runs in the first inning of the game over his fifteen starts, and hold a WHIP of 1.07 during the first inning so far this season. While he normally pitches in the hitter-friendly park in Philly, he’s in one of the worst hitting environments in the league today.

In fact, Comerica ranks near dead-last in park factors this season at night, and is the least conducive park in the nation at hitting home runs. So, it’s going to require a lot of guys to get on base in order to score a run during the first inning.

Tarik Skubal is among the best in the league at not allowing batters on base throughout the game. He’s been electric at home, and during the first inning, has only allowed four runs over fifteen starts, with a WHIP of .87 during the first inning.

It’s a no-brainer. We’re just focusing on one inning today, and it’s the first inning of a pivotal series. It’s priced fairly. And we’re going to hammer it as our play of the day today.

PICK: Phillies / Tigers “No Run First Inning” (-132)
