RECAP: August was the best month of the year for MLB of the Day, as we gained over 14 units of profit on our MLB plays. We went on heaters that went four games wide, and very rarely had any losing days. Yesterday I was caught up in all of the college football action, and we got off one play, which was a winner. Let’s carry the momentum into September.
September 1st, 2024
We’re heading to primetime as the Braves take on the Phillies in game four of their massive four game series, where Philly has taken two of the first three games. The Braves may be primed to tie this series up, but there’s one thing that I believe we can be sure about… a lack of runs.
On our earliest edition of the Sharp Report, we found that this play that we’re hammering has two Sharps on it already as the morning progressed. The line is moving our way, and Sharp AI has this game as a half-point lower than the line is currently, at 8.5.
I’m for sure in the Spencer Schwellenbach fan club, and he’s shown this season why he can be one of the dominant arms in this Braves rotation for a long time. And he’s been dominant over this last stretch of time, with him not giving up more than three runs in each of his last five outings. He’s been a strikeouts machine though, averaging 8.4 strikeouts over his last five games… and he’s been hitting nearly six innings every outing. He’s a big reason for this play, as post All-Star Break, he has a WHIP of .97.
The other side is Aaron Nola, the other pitcher on a dominant stretch this season. Over his last three games, he’s allowed just two earned runs over his last nineteen innings and has been able to go deep into games, reserving the bullpens. Plus, at home, Nola holds a WHIP of 1.05 this season. Absolutely stellar.
Both of these pitchers have been insane against the other team; for example, Nola has held this Braves lineup to an expected batting average of .236, and Schwellenbach .220 for the Phillies. And I trust these bullpens with my life – they’re among the top bullpens in the league, and in a game that’s going to be as close as this, we have to rely on them for our outcome.
Let’s take the under in this matchup between this NL East rivalry, because this pitching should prove dominant once again, and these bats are already tired from a four-game set. Under!
PICK: Atlanta / Philadelphia under 8.5
