MLB Bet of the Day | June 24, 2024

In this column, I’ll go through the BEST BET I’m seeing in the league today; this can be in a spread, a moneyline, an Over/Under, or a player prop.

RECAP: In what might be our lowest point in the MLB season, we lose all three of our plays yesterday to put the icing on the cake as this is the worst start I’ve ever had to a sport. Through over 230 bets, we’re below even and that just doesn’t spark joy whatsoever; it was a pile-on yesterday. We’ve got a massive slate today, and we’re back with more.

Just as a general rule of thumb, anytime that you can get the Los Angeles Dodgers at a reasonable line, you have to take it; in this case, we’ve got the Dodgers at -130 favorites – that’s an auto-hammer to me. 

The Dodgers got the rare Sunday off to travel to Chicago as they take on Garrett Crochet and the Chicago White Sox, the most abysmal offense in the league. The White Sox are the worst team in the league, and the worst team in the league when it comes to the first game of a series – they’ve only won three game one’s all season. That’s absolutely atrocious, and it comes with their inability to hit the ball.

While I understand the allure of Crochet and his profound ability to get unders in the league, he’s still on the White Sox. The Sox historically give him no run support, and they’ve got to face a lefty on the mound today. Over their past ten games, they’re hitting just .229 and getting on base only 28% of the time. 

James Paxton is the starter for LA, and he hasn’t been great this season; but, his May and June are much-needed upgrades to his ERA, and despite his low advanced metrics, the White Sox offense is truly something to behold. They only have four players over 100 when it comes to WRC+, and Paxton is coming off of 13 innings and only two runs allowed. It seems like he’s turned a corner. 

The rest of today is going to be dedicated to talking about the effectiveness and efficiency of the Dodgers offense. The Dodgers simply dominate left-handed pitching, scoring five runs per game and getting on base over 33% of the time over their last ten games against that hand. And, Crochet can’t stay in the game the entire time; in fact, if he stays true to form, he’ll be out by the sixth inning. This team can turn their offense on at any time, and even if they have a small deficit going into the final innings of the game, we’re not asking them to win by a million; they can score against this league-worst bullpen.

Tonight, we’re taking the LA Dodgers against the White Sox in a game that should be dominated by Goliath. The White Sox stink in the opening game of the series, and progression is not coming.
