OVERALL RECORD: 110-67-2, +34.33u
RECAP:
We had one play yesterday, and we waited literally all day to smash it, waiting for the best line possible - and then the Rockets ended up winning outright anyways. In my article yesterday, I talked about possibly sprinkling Houston ML, as they were primed for a win against a big-time team. And they did, adding .91u to our bankroll, and giving us our 110th win on the NBA season.

January 7, 2024

Today, we’re going to a team that has kicked me in the butt before, but they’re truly one of the most interesting and entertaining teams in the league - and I’m projecting them to win big tonight against a team that could use some electrolytes to their game.

Tonight, the Brooklyn Nets are hosting the Portland Trail Blazers, who are heading across the country after their two straight losses in Dallas. Brooklyn had been on a rough streak, losing five straight until they cooked the Thunder at home a couple of days ago. Road trips can be really tough, and so I don’t read into the Nets’ losing streak much; plus, they’re playing a team today that has been really poor on the road.

The Nets are simply a winning team at home, going 10-8 so far on the season. This line began at Portland +7, and has raised all the way to Portland +8.5 after the Sharps got to it. We’re seeing Brooklyn take in 31% of the betting handle, but 85% of the total money on this game - leading to a difference of 54%. And this line is continuing to move, as we’re seeing the line shift up to -9 at some places. This means we hammer Brooklyn.

And it’s not without cause; Portland has the worst away offense in the league, struggling to score over 100 points consistently away from their home court. They’re last in away FG percentage, and the Brooklyn defense is league-average at home, but really proficient in home rebounding. While Portland has a great 3P defense on the road, it’s mostly because everyone is just going inside for their points - Portland really struggles to keep their opposition off of the boards, and the Nets are the second-best home rebounding team in the league.

All of these things add up to an outpouring of support for Brooklyn tonight, who has scorers like Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson leading the scoring for them. Nic Claxton should dominate inside tonight in this matchup, and I see the Nets holding the Blazers under 110 points with their poignant defense. Let’s take the Nets by 8.5, and hope for a resounding win in the Barclays Center.

PICK: Brooklyn Nets -8.5
