NBA Bet of the Day | October 24, 2024

In this column, I’ll go through the BEST BET I’m seeing in the league today; this can be in a spread, a moneyline, an Over/Under, or a player prop. I’ll explain my reasoning below, and even add in a couple of picks I also like for today.

RECAP: We get our first winning day of the NBA season last night, going 2-1 on our plays, including a sweat-free winner in the freebie of the day. Memphis and Utah played just about zero defense in the second half, and Milwaukee blew out a depleted 76ers team. Our only loss was in New Orleans, where the Bulls and Pels scored quite a bit in the second quarter in a sweaty game. Let’s build today!

We’re going to pick the defending champs to absolutely murder the team that, I project, may be the absolute worst in the league. Tonight, the Celtics travel to Washington DC to take on the Jordan Poole and the Wizards in what my metrics show could be an absolute blowout. 

Sharp AI has this game at -12, and that’s personally good enough for me, as I see value on Boston up to -15 on tonight’s game. The addition of Alex Sarr and Malcolm Brogden (who is out tonight) doesn’t really inspire me, and the Celtics are so rock-solid top to bottom that there’s no real reason why they should struggle with this team that should come out rusty to begin their season. 

Last season, the Celtics were an ATS machine, winning by an average of 10 points per game across every single game last season. That number is even better when it comes to them being favored, as they win by an average of nearly twelve points per game when they’re favored dating back to last season. This is a Celtics team that wolloped the Wizards last season, winning by 19, 4, 26, and 10 points. They covered in Washington both times last season as well. 

Last season, as the home underdog, which is the situation tonight, they only covered in 38% of games, losing by an average of 11 points per game. While we are getting this line at a couple points higher than that, I don’t mind the gap. 

Some may be turned off that the Wiz were 9-6-1 ATS in their division, but they played really frisky… I think that we’re getting the Celtics that just don’t really care who their opponent is, and they’re going to play hard every single night. 

The high total might scare you off. I wouldn’t let it. This is a Celtics team that will not only be elite defensively against this team, but should be able to put the ball in the basket effectively. They’re the worst team in the league against SG and SFs last season, and that should continue. Gimme the C’s.
