NBA Bet of the Day | January 1, 2024

We got hooked a ton yesterday across the NBA and the NFL, and ended up losing just a minute portion of coin on yesterday’s NBA slate. We already have two picks tonight for the NBA, including a crazy play that pretty much everyone loves.

The Detroit Pistons won a basketball game, but don’t be fooled; this team doesn’t all of a sudden have their mojo back. They struggle against good teams, and have struggled to cover throughout their stretch. As an away underdog, they’re 7-9 ATS and they haven’t proven to be able to keep up with high-powered offenses like the one they’re playing today in Houston.

This morning, the Sharp App Money Handles tool this morning had the difference at near 60%, as the bet handle was at 31% and the money handles were above 90%. PRO Subscribers got this bet when it was at Houston -9, but we’re already seeing that movement happen in real time. As of writing, this is a play that has 53% of the money handles at -9, and 31% of the bets. Things have evened out, as money has come in on Detroit. I don’t trust that money whatsoever, because it’s all hyped from their most recent win against the depleted Raptors. 

As the home favorite, Houston is 5-2-1 this season ATS, and has won at a rate of 71%. Those are incredible odds, backed behind their performances at home - despite losing three straight at home, this is a perfect bounce-back spot for this team. At home, they shoot the 3-Ball incredibly well, and their home defense is really the hype here. They have a top-three defense in nearly every statistical category this season on defense at home, and they absolutely obliterate opposing offenses at home. They allow the least amount of assists per game in the league against opposing offenses at home, and only 105 points per game at home - good for second in the league. 

This is an elite defensive team, facing off against a really poor away defense, allowing 127 points per game while they’re on the road. This is an absolute must-play for me, and even if this game gets up to -9.5 or -10, I would still take it. 

Let’s take this Houston team as our first bet of 2024, and start off on a hot note in January.
