NBA Bet of the Day | December 23, 2023

In this column, I’ll go through the BEST BET I’m seeing in the league today; this can be in a spread, a moneyline, an Over/Under, or a player prop.

RECAP: We haven’t lost an NBA bet in three straight days, and we have a huge slate today to feast on. Our Bet of the Day cashed on a last-second three-pointer at the buzzer, and the under in Sacramento hit super easily. I was asleep so I didn’t feel any of the sweat of either of those games, and there’s nothing better than waking up to winners.

This is a pick that has fluctuated throughout the day, but I know that the line is going to stay pretty much right where it is for the day, and there’s no sense in waiting much longer. It passes all of our tests, and we’ve got to run with it. 

The Orlando Magic are heading to Indiana to take on the lightning-quick Pacers in a matchup of two young teams vying for media presence and stardom out of their young players. Tyrese Haliburton and Paolo Banchero are two young stars in our league, and this game will have a lot of eyes on it. 

The Orlando Magic are killers are home and average on the road, which is why they’re underdogs in this game. As the underdog on the season, Orlando is 10-7 ATS but are not great on the road, as stated before. The line then, is what I’m questioning; the Pacers, who are dominant at home, should be favored by much more than just two, right? 

We’re seeing our Money Handles go crazy for this game as well. While Orlando only has 39% of the betting handle, they’re seeing 74% of the money in this game - for a difference of 35%. That’s really solid. As well, our Sharp AI has this game as a true pick-em, with the Pacers being favored by .5. It’s a true toss-up.

But, to me, this game is going to hinge on the defensive side of the ball, and how the Orlando Magic can stop this Indiana offense. Orlando won by 8 the last time these teams faced off. Over their last five games, the Magic are the fourth-best defensive unit in the league, and allow only the 8th-least points per game. The Pacers, who are generally the number-one offensive team in the league, have actually been bumped down to 12th if we look at their last five. And while this number-one offense scares me a little, players like Banchero and Wagner can keep up with the scoring of the players on the Indiana side of the ball; we’ve seen it. 

This game should be even closer, but we’re getting 2.5 points to play with. Even if this game goes down to the wire, which the books are expecting, then we’ve got two points of wiggle room before we lose. We’re looking for an outright Magic win, and the lines are telling us that this could definitely be the case. Give me the Magic, with some wiggle room.
