NBA Bet of the Day | January 20, 2024

In this column, I’ll go through the BEST BET I’m seeing in the league today; this can be in a spread, a moneyline, an Over/Under, or a player prop.

RECAP: There goes our progress. After hovering around .500 for about four straight days, the rug got pulled out from underneath us, with the Celtics, Pelicans, and Pacers ALL losing as favorites throughout the night. The one time I go all favorites, the underdogs show up to play. We need to get some of that coin back, and we’ll look to do it again today.

We’ve got to find a winner today, as we’ve lost three of our last four NBA Free Bets of the Day - and today we’re heading to Chicago and looking at the total between the Memphis Grizzlies and the home Bulls. The Bulls are favored heavily in this game, seeing a seven-point cushion on their side. 

The Grizzlies are a hot away underdog team when it comes to the O/U, going 10-8 on the over when they are projected to lose. The Bulls, on the other hand, really struggle when it comes to the Over when they’re the home favorite, going 5-8 on that side of the bet when they are projected to win. That means that we can turn to the money handles tool, line movement, and projections to set us on the right path.

If you’re new to these articles, we look for a certain percentage in our Sharp App Money Handles Projection tool. This is for PRO Subscribers only, but here’s how it goes – we look for a bet percentage UNDER 40%, to designate it isn’t a public play. Then we look for money percentage OVER 60%, to indicate a possibility of sharp money. That then gives us a difference that we’re looking for. In this game, we have a bet percentage of 35%, a money percentage of over 80%, and that leaves us of a difference of 45%. That’s huge! 

Our Sharp App Projections have this game at 218, giving us a two-point cushion on the total - and we’ve seen line movement towards this number all day, opening at 215, and creeping up a point, maybe point and a half throughout the day. The Grizzlies are, according to the trends so far this year, a much more offensively-competent team on the road, and the Bulls are able to score at home as well, with this game that should trend close to 220 points. 

Let’s take the over in this game that seems like an under-y type game, and go against the grain to try and win the coin. Hammer the over.
