Overnight Grind : Market Makers VS Sharps January 3rd 2022

Market Makers are sportsbooks that are first to post a line and set the market. They will control risk by setting their bet limits lower when posting a spread or moneyline before
everyone else. Once the market adjusted, they max their bet limits.

Well, the sharps were hot last night. The Devils gave them a little scare in the 2nd period but they took care of business in the third. The Canuck came back from behind once again and won in OT. Utah took care of business and finally covered a freaking game!!!

But what is going on with this line is unexplainable at this moment. Since yesterday late afternoon, heavy amounts of money have been flooding in on the Steelers moving the line from +3 to -2. So, we have 2 sets of sharps in this game, one that pounded the crap out of the Browns from a pickem to -3.5 and the other that smashed the Steelers from +3.5 to -2. No major injuries were announced prior to this huge move and it's not like the Steelers got healthier. Speaking to my buddy at the book, the sudden move was due to sharps slamming the Steelers on big max bet limits and the action was overwhelming. What do they know??? The handle expected on this game will be close to 2 million. The Steelers own about 76% of the current handle and 60% of the tickets. The last number sharp hit was Pittsburgh -1. The over also moved yesterday. It opened at 41.5 and dropped all the way down to 40.5. It's was stable between 40.5 and 41 up to yesterday until sharps took interest in the over and the total was pushed to 42.5.

EDMONTON OILERS

The slumping Oilers are in the big appel to face the Rangers who just beat the Lighting twice in the last 3 days. Georgiev is set to hold the pipes for the Rangers. Smith was in nets for the Oilers yesterday and he looked like crap letting in a couple of softies included the OT goal therefore we can expect Koskinen. The Oilers are 2-1-1 playing on back-to-back games and they own a perfect 5-0 record vs the Rangers in their last 5. Teams have been very disciplined vs the Oilers allowing them only 2 power plays in their last 3 games. Can we expect a letdown from the Rangers after those 2 big wins vs the Lightning? The Oilers are pretty healthy while the Rangers will still be missing Panarin who is still in C19 protocol. Market makers opened the Rangers a -121 favourite early this morning and sharps took interest in the Oilers at +110 and +100. The Oilers are now -111. My NHL model basically has this game at a pickem.

DENVER / DALLAS OVER

Sugar House, Pointsbet and Bet Rivers all opened this total at 211.5 and ahead of some market maker books. The total is now at 214. The 211.5 and 213 were hit on low limits and this total still has room to move. My model has this game at 209. I don't agree with the move. The Mavs are an under team at home and average under 100 possessions per game at home. Also, they are coming back home after a road trip where they allowed their opponents to under 100 points in their last 3 games. Both teams have top 10 D's.
