Overnight Grind : Market Makers VS Sharps October 6, 2022

While most of us are sleeping, Market Makers and Sharps are adjusting the markets so that by the time we wake up and are ready to bet, the markets have adjusted in favour of the sportsbook. Let's take a quick look at some games where the sportsbooks had to make some adjustments based on heavy sharp interest.

Market Makers are sportsbooks that are the first to post a line and set the market. They will control risk by lowering their bet limits when posting a spread or Moneyline before everyone else. Once the market adjusted, they max their bet limits. Talbot has been hot and won his last 8 starts but don't discount Jarry he's been solid this year.

RECAP: It was a big night for those following the money. The Rangers, Red Sox, Twins, the under in Central Florida, the Capitals, and the under in OKC are ALL #!$!@#$@% WINNERS!!!

We look for sharps to be much more active in MLB now that the NHL and NBA seasons are over however this is not the sport that sharps are the most excited about since market makers tend to have very low max limits early on most of the games due to many variables in MLB. Weather is one of them and probably the most important.

For VIPs, your best start would be to look at the morning sharp report, which will give you an excellent summary of what happened overnight. In the afternoon, the sharp report updates and games might be added or removed based on what happened in the morning. The last update is around 4-5 pm EST and not much movement is expected after that. If there is movement, it will usually be square money loading up on games before they start.

Another tool that can be used with the sharp report is the MLB model on our website. Comparing the sharp money with our projection can help you make your own picks if both the model and sharp agree.

The format of this article will be changed once we will have multiple sports running every day and the focus will go back to looking at lines that moved the most overnight.

The main event today is Thursday night football. There is no MLB or CFB however we do have some NBA and NHL preseason action.

Check out The Bottom Line article for some insights on TNF.

The money is on the under at the book while we have money on both sides of the game. Betonline is one of the sharp books that are showing a -3 -118 since Oct 4th and moving it to -3.5 is screaming for money on Atlanta. We will need to keep an eye on that line. If this game is going to come down to an FG, we can all agree that we would prefer McManus over that little young hoe Koo!!

In the NBA, the sharp report is posting 1 under for the early game between the Hawks and Bucks. The under 220 is still available at a couple of books but the majority have set the total between 219.5 and 218.5

Nothing official yet but the under is on the move in Los Angels tonight. Opened at 218.5 and some books have adjusted the total to 216.5.

Sugarhouse has been very strong in being first in opening NHL preseason lines. They have almost been strong and are moving the lines as if they were getting millions on the games. None of the market makers have bothered posting opening lines in the preseason. Also, the gap between some of the lines between books is crazy but no one gives a shit since the max limits are so low that the liabilities are almost nonexistent.

The Senators, who have lost their starting goalie for a couple of weeks have opened at -130 in Montreal tonight. The line moved at -155 within 3 hours. Fandual just posted -170 and Bovada -190. Crazy eh? So getting Ottawa at -155 is value?? Who the @#(@ knows we don't even know who is playing tonight!

Looks like no one will be playing for St Louis tonight when they meet the BlueJackets. The line opened at -136 for Columbus and it was streamed on low limits to -165, then again at -175 and -205.

Good luck today
