Overnight Grind : Market Makers VS Sharps October 26, 2023

Anthony P
While most of us are sleeping, Market Makers and Sharps are adjusting the markets so that by the time we wake up and are ready to bet, the markets have adjusted in favour of the sportsbook. Let's take a quick look at some games where the sportsbooks had to make some adjustments based on heavy sharp interest.

Market Makers are pivotal figures in sports betting, shaping the market by setting initial lines. They employ a risk management strategy, starting with lower bet limits to assess early betting patterns and then increasing limits as the market adjusts.

The morning sharp report is a valuable resource for PRO subscribers, summarizing overnight developments. Updates throughout the day keep you informed about changes, with the final update around 4-5 pm EST. Any later movements often result from square money before game time.

To bolster your decision-making, use my betting models alongside the sharp report. When both sharp money and the models align, it's a strong indicator for making informed bets.

Now, let's delve into today's showdown between the market makers and the sharps.

RECAP of yesterday's games: We got another win yesterday with the game going well under in Miami. Let's keep this going tonight.

When the lights dim and the shadows grow long, the sharps keep their finger on the pulse, anticipating the next big play. If the recent 5-0 in the sharp report is anything to go by, the betting gods are smiling favorably on them. Though October saw a few setbacks, clocking in a 2.25-unit decline, things are beginning to sizzle up just in time for a grand finale.

NHL: Of Flyers, Pens, and the Moneyline

With 11 games lined up, the NHL promises some electrifying plays tonight. The Flyers? Well, it's been a rinse-repeat saga for the past two years. Bookies have been selling them short, but these birds don't go down without a fight. Hosting the Wild tonight, they started as underdogs at +112. But hey, ever heard of the majority rule? Holding 80% of the handle, the Flyers saw the moneyline dip to +102. Talk about getting some respect!

On the flip side, the Pens, as we discussed earlier this week, ain't too hot against the heavy hitters. They're up against the Avs, who, I must add, have upped their game by 7 points and are now sitting pretty at -135. Add to that the Habs, with injuries throwing curveballs left, right, and center. Losing Dach and Savard? Big oof. The most giveaways, and an undisciplined team this season. So, up against the Bluejackets, easy win, right? But watch out, the moneyline drifting towards Columbus, thanks to both squares and sharps eyeing that Habs' defense like a hawk. Take a look at defense! I believe Matheson has more games played then the other 5 combined.

NBA Insights: Lakers and the Play of Injuries

Switching courts to the NBA, the Lakers opened at -1.5 three days ago, but that was before Beal and Booker's injuries. Weren't the Suns supposed to be fully healthy? Both might sit out, prompting the bookies to readjust the line to -6. With these two big guns sidelined, the under naturally took a dip from 229.5 to 223.5. Though it did bounce back a smidge, it's still pegged at -225.5.

College Football: Spotlight on Georgia

A quick football check-in sees Georgia Southern under the microscope. They set out with a -3 but saw that steamed down to an unexpected pick this morning. Oddly, no notable injuries on their side. My own model suggests Georgia State could be the slight favorites here. However, diving deeper, one might find some discrepancies.

Thursday night will blaze with the Sun Belt rivalry as Georgia State Panthers tango with the Georgia Southern Eagles. Panthers, fresh off their 2-game winning streak post-bye, are taking on the Eagles, who've got some pep in their step after taking down UL Monroe. History leans a tad toward the Panthers, with three straight wins against the Eagles since 2020. However, some intrinsic factors might tilt the game in favor of the Eagles this time around.

Georgia Southern seems to be in a sweet spot. Minimal travel woes, coupled with the advantage of playing at home last week. Stats further sweeten the pot, with Eagles boasting top-tier offensive line rankings in the Sun Belt, according to PFF. Panthers? Not so much, especially in pass rush and coverage. With Davis Brin getting ample pocket protection, the Eagles might find an aerial route against the Panthers. Given the Panther's offensive breakdown, and their emphasis on ground plays, their game against the Eagles' formidable defense might spell trouble.

On the defense spectrum, while the Panthers have been decent, holding teams to 20.8 points on average, the Eagles' pass-heavy offense might just find those defensive chinks. Georgia State's ground attack is robust, no doubt, but against the Eagles' miserly rush defense, they might hit a snag.

Eagles vs. Panthers is more than just a game; it's a statement. While the Panthers have had their moments, especially with Grainger's accurate QB play and the team's ground prowess, the Eagles, with their 3rd down defense and an air attack, might just have the upper hand. My pick? Lay your money on the Eagles at home.
