Overnight Grind : Market Makers VS Sharps October 22, 2022

While most of us are sleeping, Market Makers and Sharps are adjusting the markets so that by the time we wake up and are ready to bet, the markets have adjusted in favour of the sportsbook. Let's take a quick look at some games where the sportsbooks had to make some adjustments based on heavy sharp interest.

Market Makers are sportsbooks that are the first to post a line and set the market. They will control risk by lowering their bet limits when posting a spread or Moneyline before everyone else. Once the market adjusted, they max their bet limits. Talbot has been hot and won his last 8 starts but don't discount Jarry he's been solid this year.

RECAP: The money was rolling on 5 games yesterday and it was right on the Pelicans, Knick, and BlackHawks but wrong on Phoniex and the over in the Western Kentucky game.

We look for sharps to be much more active in the NHL and NBA since the MLB is almost over however this is not these are not sports that sharps are the most excited about since market makers tend to have very low max limits early on most of the games. The NBA sees much more action then the NHL.

For VIPs, your best start would be to look at the morning sharp report, which will give you an excellent summary of what happened overnight. In the afternoon, the sharp report updates and games might be added or removed based on what happened in the morning. The last update is around 4-5 pm EST and not much movement is expected after that. If there is movement, it will usually be square money loading up on games before they start.

Another tool that can be used with the sharp report is the MLB model on our website. Comparing the sharp money with our projection can help you make your own picks if both the model and sharp agree.

The format of this article will be changed once we will have multiple sports running every day and the focus will go back to looking at lines that moved the most overnight.

Good afternoon, I got some of the info late for CFB so we will need to skip the early games.

The games in Oregon, Oklahoma State, and LSU are the more wagered as of 135pm EST.

Oregon is facing UCLA and most of the handle has been on UCLA this week but it seems sharps outside of my book dropped the hammer on the Ducks and moved the line from -6 to -7. Moving the line to the key number 7 is big for a book.

The Ole Miss LSU line is all over the place since it opened on October 16th. When Ole Miss was -1 they owned 75% of the handle. Money started coming on LSU and they were a -3 fav on the 21st. At that point, another set of sharps started slamming Ole Miss at +3 and the line is a pickem now. Who you got?

Texas opened a 3 pt favorite at BetOnline and the line moved up to -6 with 75% of the handle. We saw some buyback on Oklahoma State at +6 and +6.5 and this balanced the handle to 52%. It's currently at -6 for Texas and the book is happy with the number and the handle on this game.

In the NHL the total broke 7 in Edmonton after opening at 6.5o -135 and the heavy more came on the Oilers which forced the book to move the line from -135 to -152. Its all Edmonton money at the good.

The Kings are got some love today however they are on the road visiting a Washington team that hasn't shown much consistency yet. They got better in nets and signed some solid depth players but it seems the injuries are really affecting the Caps. The Kings opened at +130 and with 80% of the handle, the book moved it down to +110.

The Leafs are in the West and will battle with the Jets. The Sharps hit Toronto twice, once at -140 last night which pushed the line to -170. Someone somewhere bought back on the Jets (not at my book) and the line dropped at -155 and at the point sharps at the book hit the -155.

I refuse to spend much time on the NBA this early in the season however I still keep a close eye on what the books are doing. The Celtics opened at -7 and the line moved globally at -9. We don't have sharp money at the book but it's a decent move for a road team.

To recap: Celtics, Leafs, Kings (NHL), Edmonton, Oregon and Texas.

Good luck today
