Overnight Grind : Market Makers VS Sharps October 18, 2022

While most of us are sleeping, Market Makers and Sharps are adjusting the markets so that by the time we wake up and are ready to bet, the markets have adjusted in favour of the sportsbook. Let's take a quick look at some games where the sportsbooks had to make some adjustments based on heavy sharp interest.

Market Makers are sportsbooks that are the first to post a line and set the market. They will control risk by lowering their bet limits when posting a spread or Moneyline before everyone else. Once the market adjusted, they max their bet limits. Talbot has been hot and won his last 8 starts but don't discount Jarry he's been solid this year.

RECAP: Broncos cover, Rangers win, Kings win, Dallas wins, Colorado wins, and Yankees PPD. Pretty good night!

We look for sharps to be much more active in MLB now that the NHL and NBA seasons are over however this is not the sport that sharps are the most excited about since market makers tend to have very low max limits early on most of the games due to many variables in MLB. Weather is one of them and probably the most important.

For VIPs, your best start would be to look at the morning sharp report, which will give you an excellent summary of what happened overnight. In the afternoon, the sharp report updates and games might be added or removed based on what happened in the morning. The last update is around 4-5 pm EST and not much movement is expected after that. If there is movement, it will usually be square money loading up on games before they start.

Another tool that can be used with the sharp report is the MLB model on our website. Comparing the sharp money with our projection can help you make your own picks if both the model and sharp agree.

The format of this article will be changed once we will have multiple sports running every day and the focus will go back to looking at lines that moved the most overnight.

We welcome the 2022-2023 NBA season today as many are happy to get some basketball back. The only memory I have about last season was teams blowing 40 points leads and me complaining none stop, even in my sleep as per my wife.

We have 2 games today and the sharp report is indicating money on the totals. Something weird happened at the book, there is a respected sharp that is on the over in Golden State however the total moved down. The total opened at 227.5 and dropped to 224.5. I won't include this team in the recap however I wanted to share the info.

As for the game in Boston, we have 2 sets of sharps on this game however the most active side are the sharps on the 76ers. Many books are reporting sharp money on Philadelphia however it's been quiet at my book and they followed the market and adjusted accordingly.

Nothing to report in Baseball!!

NHL is off to a great start with a ton of goals and a ton of upsets. The Leafs were a -500 favorite yesterday and lost. Anyone can win in the NHL.

The Canuck blew the lead and lost in all their 3 games this season and they had a players-only meeting last night after their game. Pretty early in the season to have player-only meetings don't you think? They are back on the ice tonight in Columbus and haven't won a game yet also. Vancouver opened at +111 and is currently at -108

The Kings needed overtime to beat the Red Wings last night and had to travel overnight to Nashville. It was a short flight under 2 hours however it was still a late arrival at the hotel. Road back-to-back games are always difficult and sharps saw some value on Nashville who's on a 2 day's rest and pissed off about losing back-to-back games to Dallas. Betonline opened Nashville at -141 and the line moved up 22 pts and is currently at -163.

Recap: Vancouver and Nashville. And let's keep an eye on the total in Golden State.

Good luck today
