Overnight Grind : Market Makers VS Sharps November 8, 2022

While most of us are sleeping, Market Makers and Sharps are adjusting the markets so that by the time we wake up and are ready to bet, the markets have adjusted in favour of the sportsbook. Let's take a quick look at some games where the sportsbooks had to make some adjustments based on heavy sharp interest.

Market Makers are sportsbooks that are the first to post a line and set the market. They will control risk by lowering their bet limits when posting a spread or Moneyline before everyone else. Once the market adjusted, they max their bet limits. Talbot has been hot and won his last 8 starts but don't discount Jarry he's been solid this year.

We look for sharps to be much more active in the NHL and NBA since the MLB is almost over however this is not these are not sports that sharps are the most excited about since market makers tend to have very low max limits early on most of the games. The NBA sees much more action than the NHL.

For VIPs, your best start would be to look at the morning sharp report, which will give you an excellent summary of what happened overnight. In the afternoon, the sharp report updates and games might be added or removed based on what happened in the morning. The last update is around 4-5 pm EST and not much movement is expected after that. If there is movement, it will usually be square money loading up on games before they start.

Another tool that can be used with the sharp report is the MLB model on our website. Comparing the sharp money with our projection can help you make your own picks if both the model and sharp agree.

The format of this article will be changed once we will have multiple sports running every day and the focus will go back to looking at lines that moved the most overnight.

RECAP of yesterday's games: The model liked Detroit yesterday however the sharps didn't agree. The model took the win. Sharps also liked the under in Ontario and that was a joke of a game. Charlotte is slumping and even the Wizards can beat them. The under came close but cashed.

No NBA tonight and a small CBB slate. I will take it.

The sharp report is showing 4 spots and the Flyers are not one of them however some money in the US markets is moving the line in their favor. I understand buying the Blues low can be a profitable strategy (look at the Caps last night) but my gosh they have been terrible and the smart money has been on the Flyers. Betonline opened the Blues at -130 and the line dropped to -120.

The Flames are playing on a b2b versus one of the hottest teams so you know what that means! The Devils opened at -125 and moved up to -137 right before lunchtime.

Can someone please tell me the last time we saw the Sabres a -235 favorite? Please tell me!!! Buffalo is featured on this morning's sharp report and I can't wait and see if there is a buyback on the Coyotes. Arizona has one of the best special teams and recently beat the Panthers. Buffalo opened at -198 and jumped almost 40 pts to -235.

Would you like to beat the closing line at a 90% rate in hockey? Here is an easy trick, when a team is playing on a b2b bet the opposite team as soon as possible. Never fails! You will beat the closing line 90% of the time however the win rate is closer to 54%. Tampa is playing the Oilers tonight which are on a b2b and moved from -148 to -168 since it opened yesterday afternoon. Leo came out last night calling out his defense and said they are allowing too many goals. Let's see what happens tonight.

Sharps are going hard on totals in CBB tonight and I am just about to update the sharp report! One of the games we saw sharp money is on the under 137.5 in Duquesne! That total is moving up and down but sharp money is still on the under.

The over gained 4.5 pts in Providence since this morning and currently sitting at 143.5 and lastly, the under 138.5 was smashed in East Carolina and dropped to 132.5. It initially opened at 137 and moved up to 138.5. I believe the sharps were waiting for that overaction to drop the hammer on the under. The max bet limits are low at the book (around 2k) therefore it doesn't take much for the book to immediately move the numbers if a respected bettor hits a game.

Let's not forget we also have some CFB. Squares are on Ohio at -2 while we have sharps on Miami Ohio at +2.5. It looks like the line will be moving at +3 and the book needs Miami Ohio as per the sharp report. Betting Miami Ohio you will be on the same side of the book and sharps. If it gets to +3 I might hit it for a couple of dollars.
