Overnight Grind : Market Makers VS Sharps November 5, 2022

Market Makers are sportsbooks that are the first to post a line and set the market. They will control risk by lowering their bet limits when posting a spread or Moneyline before everyone else. Once the market adjusted, they max their bet limits. Talbot has been hot and won his last 8 starts but don't discount Jarry he's been solid this year.

We look for sharps to be much more active in the NHL and NBA since the MLB is almost over however this is not these are not sports that sharps are the most excited about since market makers tend to have very low max limits early on most of the games. The NBA sees much more action than the NHL.

For VIPs, your best start would be to look at the morning sharp report, which will give you an excellent summary of what happened overnight. In the afternoon, the sharp report updates and games might be added or removed based on what happened in the morning. The last update is around 4-5 pm EST and not much movement is expected after that. If there is movement, it will usually be square money loading up on games before they start.

Another tool that can be used with the sharp report is the MLB model on our website. Comparing the sharp money with our projection can help you make your own picks if both the model and sharp agree.

The format of this article will be changed once we will have multiple sports running every day and the focus will go back to looking at lines that moved the most overnight.

Saturdays are very busy with college football so let's dive in right away.

The money coming in on Kansas has been insane. The line moved from +3.5 to -1. The -1 mark happened this evening but there was immediate buyback and it's back at 0. The handle moved from 31% on Kansas to 55% and then 62%. Expect more movement since the bet max limits are only at 11k.

Missouri opened a 2.5 underdog on Sunday with only 20% of the handle on them. The handle did shift in their favor however not enough to justify a move from +2.5 to -1. The biggest move came on Wednesday when the line moved from +1 to -1. It's been quiet since then.

A top 3 game in terms of total money wagered is in Memphis. Sugarhouse opened UCF at -6 while market marker Betonline opened its line at -5. Some US books are now posting a -3 for UCF indicating a shit ton of money on Memphis came in early Tuesday morning. It's been quiet since then but the offshore markets are scared to increase bet limits on this game and it's still stuck at 5k.

We have a 2 game NHL slate on Friday therefore I am expecting some movement early on for the Saturday games but it's really not the case. There is no movement on the total and on the ML the biggest move is about 7 pt. The Sharp report has already identified 4 games that the sharps have shown interest therefore if you want to get on them before the line moves you will have to sign up for our PRO access.

3:30 pm update

We didn't really see much movement in the NHL overnight and today. The only noticeable move was in LA where the Kings went from +165 to +125. There are no major injuries for the Panthers, they are not on a b2b but they haven't been playing well lately. This might be the factor for smart money. In their last 5 games, they lost to Shitcago, Philly, and Arizona. They had a hard time in San Jose and needed OT and they beat the Sens.

In the NBA we've seen more action. Giannis is questionable and that line went down 3 pts from its opening. The Magic did well versus the "we forgot to how to play defense Warriors" but the money is on the Kings and that line moved from -2 to -4.5. Also to note is that the total went up from 224 to 228.5.
