Overnight Grind : Market Makers VS Sharps November 28, 2022

While most of us are sleeping, Market Makers and Sharps are adjusting the markets so that by the time we wake up and are ready to bet, the markets have adjusted in favour of the sportsbook. Let's take a quick look at some games where the sportsbooks had to make some adjustments based on heavy sharp interest.

Market Makers are sportsbooks that are the first to post a line and set the market. They will control risk by lowering their bet limits when posting a spread or Moneyline before everyone else. Once the market adjusted, they max their bet limits. Talbot has been hot and won his last 8 starts but don't discount Jarry he's been solid this year.

We look for sharps to be much more active in the NHL and NBA since the MLB is almost over however this is not these are not sports that sharps are the most excited about since market makers tend to have very low max limits early on most of the games. The NBA sees much more action than the NHL.

For VIPs, your best start would be to look at the morning sharp report, which will give you an excellent summary of what happened overnight. In the afternoon, the sharp report updates and games might be added or removed based on what happened in the morning. The last update is around 4-5 pm EST and not much movement is expected after that. If there is movement, it will usually be square money loading up on games before they start.

Another tool that can be used with the sharp report is the MLB model on our website. Comparing the sharp money with our projection can help you make your own picks if both the model and sharp agree.

The format of this article will be changed once we will have multiple sports running every day and the focus will go back to looking at lines that moved the most overnight.

RECAP of yesterday's games: No recap for yesterday

There have been over 1500 games to wager on in the last 4-5 days. Thrown in Thanksgiving, Black Friday, a long weekend, and a ton of drama in the sports scene! It's BEEN CRAZY!!!

A much more manageable day in sports today. We have some NHL, NBA, CBB, and NFL.

In the NFL we don't have any sharp interest in the game however I do want to cover it quickly. The line opened at -3 for Indianapolis and it dropped to -2.5. There is enough support on the Steelers that I doubt this line will move back to -3. Tomlin owns the Colts and Ryan and Ryan is terrible versus the Steelers. The total has been very stable and I expect this game to go over 39.5.

In the NHL we have one noticeable game to cover. The Blues opened at -120 and has now dropped to +100. This should be a great game versus the Stars however how much fuel is left in the tank for the Blues? They are playing the 3rd game in 4 nights and the 4th game in 6 nights. The Blues have been perfect in their last 5 games in both situations however the odds are against them tonight. Smart money is on Dallas tonight.

The Sharp report signaled sharp money on the Suns tonight. The market makers opened this line at a pickem and this morning we saw our first move on the Suns which moved the line to -1. The Suns hit the road after winning 4 straight at home. They are only 2-5 on the road and will face a Kings team that might be finally regressing. The Kings lost 2 straight and looked like their old selves in that second half in Boston.

The Pacers are 3-0 with no rest this year and a favorable SOS helped this year. Due to the recent Lakers' success, the market makers tried to inflate the Lakers at -5 and the smart money saw a great opportunity to take the +5 on the Pacers. I personally don't like b2b situations and we have to give the Laker's defense some respect. The Laker's offense has also been on fire averaging 120 points per game last 5 games.

Northwestern seems to be the square play of the night in college basketball and the smart money saw yet another opportunity. We have close to 85% of the tickets on Northwestern however the handle is close to 50/50. The early square interest on Northwestern might have pushed the line to -9.5 yesterday and that's where we assume smart money came in pushing the line down to -7.5 and favoring Pittsburgh. The markets are giving Northwestern way too much respect, they can't find any scoring consistency, and that last game against Auburn was the best example. Pittsburgh's slow pace and both shitty offenses should keep this game close.

To recap: Dallas Stars, Suns, Pacers, and Pittsburgh (CBB)

Good luck today
