Overnight Grind : Market Makers VS Sharps November 25, 2022

Market Makers are sportsbooks that are the first to post a line and set the market. They will control risk by lowering their bet limits when posting a spread or Moneyline before everyone else. Once the market adjusted, they max their bet limits. Talbot has been hot and won his last 8 starts but don't discount Jarry he's been solid this year.

We look for sharps to be much more active in the NHL and NBA since the MLB is almost over however this is not these are not sports that sharps are the most excited about since market makers tend to have very low max limits early on most of the games. The NBA sees much more action than the NHL.

For VIPs, your best start would be to look at the morning sharp report, which will give you an excellent summary of what happened overnight. In the afternoon, the sharp report updates and games might be added or removed based on what happened in the morning. The last update is around 4-5 pm EST and not much movement is expected after that. If there is movement, it will usually be square money loading up on games before they start.

The format of this article will be changed once we will have multiple sports running every day and the focus will go back to looking at lines that moved the most overnight.

RECAP of yesterday's games: The Giants with the back door cover but some sharps won at -6.5 and -7, pushed at -8. The squares at -10 lost. It was a good game in CFB but not many were paying attention. Mississippi state covered and won straight up. Northwestern's move from -1.5 to -3.5 screwed many, they won by 2 and Kansas didn't cover. Butler wasn't an easy cover but ended up winning by 5.

It's going to be a VERY busy day. Let's start with some NHL. The game in Nashville was postponed due to a water main that broke.

Thanksgiving hangovers might have affected smart money across all sports. We don't have much movement in the NHL. The sharp report is only showing 2 games early this morning and one of them was on Colorado.

The Sens have been getting some interest from the US markets. They opened at -128 at market makers and the line moved up to -145 this morning. 75% of the handle is on Ottawa. That is the only significant move to report in the NHL.

The 76ers continue to be decimated by injuries however the smart money likes them tonight. Philadelphia opened a 4 pt dog last night and sharp money hit at +4 and +3 moving the line down to +2.5. We also have a couple of sharps on the over however that total dropped from 217 to 213.5 meaning that somewhere out there we have another set of sharp slamming the under.

Golden State is also getting some interest moving from -6 to -7.5 and it looks like this line is moving to -8.

As of 11 am, one of the most wagered games in CBB is in Davidson. They opened at 1.5 pts dog with only 23% of the handle. Money moved in on them overnight and the handle moved from 23% to 60% and forced the book to make them 2 pts favorites this morning.

So many games going on today and we shouldn't forget about CFB. We have a kickoff set at noon in Cincinnati and it's been all Tulane money. Cincinnati opened a 3 pt favorite 5 days ago and the money just kept coming in on Tulane. From 54% to 90% in the last 3 days, Tulane was moved from a 3 pt dog to a picked one this morning. They were even 1 pt favorite at a certain point but the line moved back to a pickem.
