Overnight Grind : Market Makers VS Sharps November 1, 2022

While most of us are sleeping, Market Makers and Sharps are adjusting the markets so that by the time we wake up and are ready to bet, the markets have adjusted in favour of the sportsbook. Let's take a quick look at some games where the sportsbooks had to make some adjustments based on heavy sharp interest.

Market Makers are sportsbooks that are the first to post a line and set the market. They will control risk by lowering their bet limits when posting a spread or Moneyline before everyone else. Once the market adjusted, they max their bet limits. Talbot has been hot and won his last 8 starts but don't discount Jarry he's been solid this year.

We look for sharps to be much more active in the NHL and NBA since the MLB is almost over however this is not these are not sports that sharps are the most excited about since market makers tend to have very low max limits early on most of the games. The NBA sees much more action than the NHL.

For VIPs, your best start would be to look at the morning sharp report, which will give you an excellent summary of what happened overnight. In the afternoon, the sharp report updates and games might be added or removed based on what happened in the morning. The last update is around 4-5 pm EST and not much movement is expected after that. If there is movement, it will usually be square money loading up on games before they start.

Another tool that can be used with the sharp report is the MLB model on our website. Comparing the sharp money with our projection can help you make your own picks if both the model and sharp agree.

The format of this article will be changed once we will have multiple sports running every day and the focus will go back to looking at lines that moved the most overnight.

RECAP of yesterday's games: The smart money took wins with the LA Kings, Milwaukee under, and Sacramento. The only loss was the under in Washington and we had a push in the LA Kings total.

Tonight we have a huge slate in the NHL and ill be hitting for DFS for sure. We also have some CFB therefore we will be spoiled tonight.

In the NHL the sharp money is strong on the Golden Knights which will face a backup goalie in Washington since they played in Carolina last night. Some US markets opened the Caps at -110 which was very irresponsible since market makers opened Vegas at -130. Vegas for slammed at -130 and -149. The line went up to -161.

It's rare we will see the Sharks as a favorite but they are tonight. They opened at -144 and saw some sharp money at -139 but from there on heavy money started coming on the Ducks and the line dropped to -120.

Totals in the NBA seem on being the ones hit the most this season but there is not much to report at this moment.

In baseball tonight the total is where there was some interest. The majority of the books opened the total at 7.5 however some posted an 8. I believe DK still has it at 8u -120. We don't have sharp money at the money but I am aware that there 2 sets of sharps on the total.

We have some interesting moves in CFB. Ball State is a square play on the sharp report as soon as they hit +7. Kent State opened at -5 and with 65% of the handle, the line moved to -7. The handle now shifted at 80% for Ball State at +7 but I don't see the line moving back down. Squares are pushing the handle up on Ball State while sharps are on Kent St.

In Ohio, we have a weird game. Without any sharp indication, Buffalo flew from 0 to -3 this morning. That's when the sharps came in on Ohio at +3 forcing them to drop the line to +2.5. at market makers. Some US books still have Ohio at +3 therefore if you want to be on the number that the sharps hit, do it now before it drops to +2.5.

Recap: Ohio +3, Kent St -5, Ducks +120, Golden Knights -140

Good luck today
