Overnight Grind : Market Makers VS Sharps March 22, 2022

Market Makers are sportsbooks that are first to post a line and set the market. They will control risk by setting their bet limits lower when posting a spread or Moneyline before everyone else. Once the market adjusted, they max their bet limits.

Folks, we had a decent day with the Overnight grid yesterday going 2-1. The Wild took care of business with a hard-fought 3-0 win. The Wild was also a VIP pick yesterday. The Lakers game went exactly as anticipated and the over hit with ease. As for the Jazz, I told you guys I don't like playing teams on b2b but the sharps liked them. Well. they lost. One of the worst defensive teams is in Pittsburgh tonight and the sharps smashed the Pens this morning pushing the line from -265 to -320. The Blue Jackets currently are the best value play showing a +ev of 26% based on my betting model and to be honest, the line is a little inflated but I don't see the Pens losing tonight especially after acquiring Rakell yesterday at the trade deadline and making them a team with so much depth.

Yes, you have guessed it. The Devils are playing tonight therefore the sharps will be on them since the books keep on undervaluing them. Even with 80% of the handle on the Rangers, this line dropped from +158 to +128 including many reverse line movement signals throughout the day. My model has this line at -146 for the Rangers so I will support the value on the Devils tonight however it's hard to bet against Igor.

Vegas is on a road b2b and had to travel overnight to Winnipeg where they will be facing a Jets team that embarrassed them 7-3 exactly 7 days ago. My model has the Jets at -129 while the market makers opened them a -136 favourite this morning. The line got beat up in early trading and jumped to -165. There is value on the Golden Knights however I am not buying it. They played last night, currently playing in a 4th game in 6 nights and full of injuries. I agree with the sharp interest here.

In the NBA

It's a quiet night and the only game with sharp interest is an ugly one. The Hawks opened at -1 and sharps pushed the line to -4 this morning and has settled at -3.5. My model has this game at a pickem and I'm surprised to see the Hawks 10-24 ATS record on the road getting any support for the sharps. Just to get a better idea of how bad the Hawks are on the road, they haven't covered a road game in the last 5 weeks. Most of the interest has to do with Randle being out but I will not be supporting Atlanta tonight.
