Overnight Grind : Market Makers VS Sharps December 6, 2022

While most of us are sleeping, Market Makers and Sharps are adjusting the markets so that by the time we wake up and are ready to bet, the markets have adjusted in favour of the sportsbook. Let's take a quick look at some games where the sportsbooks had to make some adjustments based on heavy sharp interest.

Market Makers are sportsbooks that are the first to post a line and set the market. They will control risk by lowering their bet limits when posting a spread or Moneyline before everyone else. Once the market adjusted, they max their bet limits. Talbot has been hot and won his last 8 starts but don't discount Jarry he's been solid this year.

We look for sharps to be much more active in the NHL and NBA since the MLB is almost over however this is not these are not sports that sharps are the most excited about since market makers tend to have very low max limits early on most of the games. The NBA sees much more action than the NHL.

For VIPs, your best start would be to look at the morning sharp report, which will give you an excellent summary of what happened overnight. In the afternoon, the sharp report updates and games might be added or removed based on what happened in the morning. The last update is around 4-5 pm EST and not much movement is expected after that. If there is movement, it will usually be square money loading up on games before they start.

Another tool that can be used with the sharp report is the MLB model on our website. Comparing the sharp money with our projection can help you make your own picks if both the model and sharp agree.

The format of this article will be changed once we have multiple sports running every day and the focus will go back to looking at lines that moved the most overnight.

RECAP of yesterday's games: The Bucks blew a big lead and missed the covet by 2.5 pts. IUPUI was close but went over. The Rangers were the only winner.

I wanted to get this article out last night and that didn't work out! I got super busy this morning and here we are now!

Small slate in the NBA and I don't have anything to write about. Denver and Miami under are featured on the sharp report but the numbers haven't moved much. If we look at the betting splits, the Lakers seem to be a square play tonight and I don't blame the regular Joe for liking the Lakers based on how they've been playing. As for Denver, 6-% of the tickets are on the Mavs and 70% of the handle is on Denver. The nuggets moved from -4.5 to -5.

In the NHL all the big dogs got hit. It's not uncommon, however, today was a little extreme. Tampa jumped 50pts, Jersey from -305 to -405, Seattle up 45ps, and the Canes up 40pts. I am not going to track these in this article.

The under was hit in Long Island. It happened right before lunchtime. Greiss is in nets for the Blues and he has a GAA of 3.57. The total opened at 6 and dropped to 5.5 with some smart money supporting the under.

The Jets under is 7-14 this season and the smart money likes the under tonight once again. The total opened at 6.5 with 75% of the handle on the under. The numbers rebalanced since it dropped to 6 however 55% of the handle is still on the under. The over has been dominating head-to-head meeting with 15 of last 19 games going over but the current trend is very strong on the under for the Jets this season.

To recap: NY Islanders under 5.5, Winnipeg under 6.

Good luck today
