Overnight Grind : Market Makers VS Sharps December 20, 2022

Market Makers are sportsbooks that are the first to post a line and set the market. They will control risk by lowering their bet limits when posting a spread or Moneyline before everyone else. Once the market adjusted, they max their bet limits. Talbot has been hot and won his last 8 starts but don't discount Jarry he's been solid this year.

We look for sharps to be much more active in the NHL and NBA since the MLB is almost over however this is not these are not sports that sharps are the most excited about since market makers tend to have very low max limits early on most of the games. The NBA sees much more action than the NHL.

For VIPs, your best start would be to look at the morning sharp report, which will give you an excellent summary of what happened overnight. In the afternoon, the sharp report updates and games might be added or removed based on what happened in the morning. The last update is around 4-5 pm EST and not much movement is expected after that. If there is movement, it will usually be square money loading up on games before they start.

Another tool that can be used with the sharp report is the MLB model on our website. Comparing the sharp money with our projection can help you make your own picks if both the model and sharp agree.

The format of this article will be changed once we have multiple sports running every day and the focus will go back to looking at lines that moved the most overnight.

RECAP of yesterday's games: OKC and the Sabres made us proud winning as straight-up dogs while the Kings, which were 10 pts fav lost straight up!

In the NBA we have 2 interesting moves. My model supported the over in Phoenix tonight however it already jumped 3 points, from 226 to 229. We are seeing some buyback and some books have dropped back to 228.

In the other game, the Nuggets opened at -3 and smart money smashed the road team and made them the favorites overnight. Porter Jr is out, Murray is questionable and Jokic is probable. The Nuggets defense has been terrible and the Grizzlies should be able to abuse them in this game.

We have an 8 game slate in the NHL and barely a couple of moves. Columbus played a tough one last night and traveled to Philly overnight. The Flyers opened at -155 and are now at -170. The Flyers are -170??? Yack!!! Columbus has been terrible but has owned the flyers recently winning 4 out of the last 5 games and even though they are one of the worst road teams in the last 3 seasons I don't agree with this move.

The Devils received some start money with the news that Kochetkov will dress up tonight. I have the Canes at -127 and liked them tonight, actually, I still do base on the way the Devils have been playing. Nonetheless, the smart money moved towards the Devils and the Canes now dropped to -115. They are playing the 3rd game in the last 4 days and attacking fatigue might be an angle the smart money is looking at. The Canes are one of the hottest teams losing only 1 game in their last 10 while the Devils lost 5 straight.

Toledo opened at -1 and moved all the up to -5 and back down to -3.5. Toledo lost 4 straight bowls and there is more motivation than Liberty to win this game. As for Liberty, they lost their coach and have 10 players in the transfer portal including some key defensive players. Go Toledo Go
