Overnight Grind : Market Makers VS Sharps December 12, 2023

While most of us are sleeping, Market Makers and Sharps are adjusting the markets so that by the time we wake up and are ready to bet, the markets have adjusted in favour of the sportsbook. Let's take a quick look at some games where the sportsbooks had to make some adjustments based on heavy sharp interest.

Market Makers are pivotal figures in sports betting, shaping the market by setting initial lines. They employ a risk management strategy, starting with lower bet limits to assess early betting patterns and then increasing limits as the market adjusts.

The morning sharp report summarizes overnight developments and is a valuable resource for PRO subscribers. Daily updates keep you informed about changes, with the final update around 4-5 pm EST. Any later movements often result from square money before game time.

To bolster your decision-making, use my betting models alongside the sharp report. When sharp money and the models align, it's a strong indicator for making informed bets.

Let's delve into today's showdown between the market makers and the sharps.

RECAP of yesterday's games: The Nets had a slow start to the game and they never recuperated from it. They lost by 13.

As the bowl season fast approaches, excitement is building among sports bettors. I've already released four early picks for the games on December 16th. Below, you’ll find a link to access these picks, and as a special offer, you can save 20% off for life.

NHL Action

In the NHL, we have a packed schedule with 10 games. Notably, the bookmakers have set a max bet limit of $5,000 per game, indicating their confidence in the current odds.

  • Carolina vs. Ottawa: Carolina, on the road and missing key players like Andersen and Svechnikov, opened at -140 at Betonline. Despite commanding 75% of the handle, the odds have shifted to -123. Interestingly, two sharps are backing Ottawa and one on Carolina, suggesting a divided opinion among the experts.

  • Toronto Maple Leafs' Challenge: The Leafs face a tough back-to-back road game against the Rangers. With Jones expected in nets, their prospects look bleak, especially against a Rangers team eager to break their slump. The market has reacted, with the Rangers’ odds moving from -145 to -165.

NBA and College Basketball Updates

  • Quiet NBA, But Kings-Clippers Stir Interest: The Kings and Clippers, both having played last night, might see significant player rotations and load management. The line movement favors the Kings, shifting from Clippers -5 to -2.5.

  • College Basketball: Duke vs. Hofstra: The Duke game remains the most wagered, with the line stuck at -15 (-15.5 at some books). With 80% of the handle on Hofstra, and my model placing Duke at -12.5, we might see the line drop.

  • Sharp Moves in College Games: Sharp bettors are eyeing the under in the San Houston State game, adjusting the total to 137.5. Also, UL Monroe opened at +11.5 and moved to +8.5, with a significant 80% handle backing them. A notable shift is seen in the North Carolina A&T game, where the line moved from +7 to +4 despite 77% of the handle on the opposing team, indicating sharp action on North Carolina A&T. My model has this line at -7 therefore it's indeed an interesting move.

Strategic Pause

Currently, we are experiencing a cold streak. Sometimes, the wisest strategy in betting is to take a short break, reassess, and return with a clearer mindset.
