Imagine playing a contest thousands of times before you pay the entry fee. DFS contest simulation is the way to get close to that. The lesson lays out a working simulator: player outcomes that move together, a believable field of opponent lineups, scoring, ranking, tie rules and payouts. A worked case shows a lineup with a rare big prize and a negative expected return anyway, so a headline payout proves little. You will also study multiple entries and how they pile up on the same players, and how an optimizer can fool you by fitting noise. A simulator is only as honest as the assumptions you feed it.
Learning objectives
- Explain the method, its assumptions, and when it fails.
- Recreate all examples and interpret net outcomes.
- Complete a paper-only workflow using contest rules and data timestamped before lock.
