The Maple Leafs host the Flyers after returning from a 5 game road trip that saw them go 1-4, which included 2 really bad losses to the Sharks and Ducks. The Leafs have been burning their backers money since the start of the season. Tonight they play the Flyers under new coach J. Torterella; I’ll admit that I didn’t think Torts coaching style wouldn’t mix well with this team, clearly I was wrong as the Flyers are 5-2-2 after 9 games. The Leafs are way too big of a favorite with the way they’re playing, I’ll gladly grab the Flyers plus +1.5 at plus money.

Buffalo Sabres +103

The Sabres host a reeling Penguins team tonight in Buffalo. The Penguins have lost 5 straight including a serious meltdown last night versus the Bruins when they led 5-2 midway through the 2nd period and eventually lost 6-5 in OT. The Pens are on a B2B and are 0-2 early this season on zero rest and could also be without 2 veterans in K. Letang and J. Carter tonight. Defensive play and goaltending have been real issues of late for the Pens also, as they surrendered 3 or more goals in all 5 losses. I like the Sabres here as a small home dog.

Houston Astros -1.5 +158

The Astros face a pivotal G4 tonight as a loss tonight will put them on the brink of elimination while a win might put them in the driver’s seat with J. Verlander & F. Valdez scheduled to pitch games 5 & 6. It will be C. Javier versus A. Nola tonight; Nola has had a really rough go at it in his last 2 starts not getting past the 5th inning and giving up 11 earned runs. C. Javier has only started one game for the Stros this post season and he dominated the Yanks, shutting them out over 5+ innings. I will back the Astros to continue the seesaw battle between these 2 teams and even the series at 2 games apiece.
