Canadian D. Shapovalov faces the Dutchman T. Greikspoor in the 2nd round of the Geneva Open this afternoon. Griekspoor really struggled versus the hard serving C. Eubanks in round 1 needing three sets to win his match. Shapovalov put on a clinic in round 1 versus Argentine F. Coria winning in straight sets and taking the 2nd set by a score of 6-0. It has no doubt been a rough 2024 season for Shapovalov but he has shown sign of turning things around as he has impressive wins over F. Diaz Acosta, M. Etcheverry and Coria who are all clay court specialist over his last 5 matches. Shapovalov is a much more well rounded player than Eubanks, who gave Griekspoor so much trouble in round 1. I like Shapovalov here as a small favorite.
