San Diego Padres -1.5 +189

The Padres begin a 3 game series with the Cards tonight in SD. The Cards send veteran A. Wainwright to mound to face M. Clevinger. When Clevinger has pitched well this season it’s been mainly when he pitches at Petco Park (ERA 3.52), like mentioned in previous write ups, when Wainwright doesn’t pitch well it’s mainly been when he pitches on the road. Wainwright’s ERA is almost 2 full points higher on the road than at home. In half of his road starts he’s allowed 4 or more earned runs which is good news for Padres hitters. So I feel we have a good recipe here for a multi run Padres victory.

Los Angeles Angels -1.5 +128

The Angels head to Texas to face the Rangers, P. Sandoval faces C. Ragans on the mound. Ragans hasn’t been very good at all since joining the rotation; in his 6 starts this season he’s only pitched more than 4 innings twice. His ERA is 5.68 and his WHIP is 1.58 and that isn’t a recipe for success at the major league level. For the Angels, Sandoval has been their best starter this season and he’s been dealing of late, his ERA in his last 7 starts is 1.69 and he should be able to shut down the Rangers lineup. I like the Angels but multiple runs here.

Toronto Blue Jays -1.5 +137

The Phillies host the Blue Jays for a mini 2 game series. The Phils have lost 4 straight and are facing a tough slate this week as the play the Jays for 2 and then host the Braves (4 games) that just swept them over the weekend. Their Wild Card lead over the Brewers is only 2.5 games and another bad week of play could have them on the outside looking in. R. Stripling faces K. Gibson on the mound. Stripling has been the Jays 2nd best pitcher of late and the Jays must be surprised considering he wasn’t even in the rotation to start the season. In his last 7 starts the Jays are 6-1 while he’s posted a 2.63 ERA. Gibson hasn’t been pitching great of late, his ERA is 4.75 and if not because of good starts versus the anemic Marlins and Pirates his ERA would be even higher. I like the Jays bats to get to Gibson and the Jays to win big.
