France's C. Garcia faces American C. Gauff in the 4th round of the Miami Open this afternoon. Both players have played well through two matches so far, Gauff disposed of N. Podoroska and O. Dodin in straight sets while Garcia has discarded V. Tomova and N. Osaka in the same fashion. Gauff is having a nice start to 2024 with an 18-4 record and has easily beaten lower quality opponents, but that can't be said versus better opponents, she's been forced to a 3rd set versus players like E. Svitolina, M. Kostyuk, K. Pliskova & M. Sakkari. A lackluster ending to the 2023 season as well as a sluggish start to the 2024 season has caused Garcia to slide outside the top 20 rankings, however, she's been in the top 10 for a long time and her talent cannot be ignored. Even in her losses versus top tier opponents, Garcia matches have gone to a 3rd set versus J. Paolini, J. Ostapenko and #1 ranked I. Swiatek. The fact that we can get Garcia at plus money at +1.5 sets is very enticing and is our play today.
