American B. Nakashima takes on Aussie R. Hijikata in the 2nd round of the Houston Open later today. We've started the clay court portion of the 2024 season as we ramp up for the next Major, the French Open starting towards the end of May. This is definitely not the best surface for either player, as Nakashima has a 17-20 career record on clay while Hijikata sits at 20-17. However, if we look at the 2024 season overall, Nakashima has clearly performed better as his record is 11-4 compared to a losing record of 7-10 for Hijikata. Over his past 6 tournaments played, Hijikata has either not made it past the qualifying rounds or the 2nd round showing that he has issues winning matches in general let alone players any level of quality. Nakashima is a young player with plenty of upside in the future and should take this match in straight sets.
