OVERALL RECORD: 224-210-8, +8.18u
RECAP: All of a sudden, we’re quietly on a heater in the MLB as we go 2-0 in our plays. San Diego was never a sweat as we took them as dogs on the moneyline, and Cleveland was a back and forth sweat all the way through, but we hit the run line play at -1. Even if you got it at -1.5, you got the win too! Today, we’ve got a massive slate, so let’s dive in!

August 31st, 2024

I’m betting against my boy DJ Herz today, and it’s to back the best offense in the league at the moment in a ballpark that might make a million runs scored today.

Javier Assad is taking the mound for the Chicago Cubs, and he’s been consistently good after coming back from the IL earlier this season. He can be a workhorse at times, but he’s been known at times to get high pitch counts. But based on his last start, he looks ready to roll, going seven innings and allowing three runs on a couple of missed pitches. Despite that, he’s been able to limit runs since the All-Star break and has allowed just three home runs in that stretch of 38 innings; in fact, the last outing, he allowed two home runs. Remove that start, and this dude is consistently shoving.

DJ Herz is also shoving, but this Cubs offense is humming as well. Herz’ biggest downfall is that he rarely makes it past the fifth inning, and the Nationals are allowing a WHIP of 1.60 over their last three games. The Cubs’ bullpen, on the other hand, has been extremely good over this past recent stretch, among the best in the league. There’s something in the water with this Cubs team right now.

The offense over the last ten games has been unreal. They’re getting on base 38% of the time, pushing across over eight runs per game, and Pete Crow-Armstrong is looking like a top five player in the league. Read that back, and go check the stats.

This Nats offense is fine, by comparison, but extremely inconsistent over this past stretch. Their offense has declined recently, and we’re lucky if they push across a couple of runs today against this pitching staff.

Let’s take Cody Bellinger, Seiya Suzuki, and PCA to stay hot against a team that they really should beat, if they want to make any sort of push towards the playoffs. Chicago on the moneyline.

PICK: Chicago Cubs ML
