WNBA BETTING MODEL FOR JULY 21, 2023

The model wasn't vibing with anything yesterday, but I had a hunch about Phoenix, and for once, the momentum was all in favor of my pick. Today, we've got a single game on the slate, and the crowd's rallying behind the Liberty.

The line kicked off at -8 this morning and swiftly shifted to -9. The raw projections for this game are sitting at -7.5, and barring any major injuries, my margin model suggests that New York shouldn't be more than a -3.5 favorite. But with EDD, Aistin, Toliver, and Atkins on the sidelines, the -9 makes a bit more sense. In the five games, since EDD's been out, the Mystics have posted a 2-3 SU and ATS record, notching wins against the Indiana Fever and the Seattle Storm. They've also slipped in defensive rating during that stretch. Most recently, they took a six-point loss to the Fever at home, 82-76.

New York has been on a bit of a roll lately, winning four of their last five games. However, they've only managed a 1-4 ATS record during that same period. Now, they're licking their wounds after a 10-point loss to Dallas at home and should be eager to bounce back against a depleted Washington squad. The Liberty's defense has been a bit shaky recently, and they've seen seven Overs in their last 10 games. Washington's been better at protecting the ball than New York but the over is 6-2 in their last 8 games. But with so many starters out for Washington, New York really has no excuse not to cover. Della Donne and Ariel Atkins alone racked up 39 points in that overtime game on June 25th. I like this game to go over and ill leave the spread alone.
