Val’s Aussie Open Play - Day 1 (Round 1)
Val
We get a little unlucky with our Draper play yesterday as he won the opening set but wasn't able to seal the deal versus Lehecka, losing the match in 3 sets. Today we get opening day action for the Aussie Open
Record 0-1 (-1 unit)
Jannik Sinner -2.5 sets -151 (Risk 1.51 for 1 units) Expected start time 10pm Jan 13th.
Italy's J. Sinner faces the Dutchman B. Van De Zandschulp in the opening round of the Aussie Open. I'm glad I'm not an announcer and have to repeat that name over and over again during the match. 2023 was a great year for Sinner as he climbed the ranks of the ATP tour to finish the year at a high of #4 and was able to be part of the Nitto Open, which is the year end tournament for the top 8 players on Tour. He reached the Finals but lost to the eventual Champ N. Djokovic. I expect 2024 to be an even bigger year for Sinner as I believe he will be a factor at every Major tournament and that journey starts for him tonight. Sinner has yet to play this season but I do not believe rust will be an issue for him here, Sinner has the physical and mental makeup to be ready from the get go. Van De Zandschulp ranked #59 has had played in 2 tournaments before the Aussie Open will little success having not made it past the 2nd round in either tournament (Hong Kong & Auckland) losing to inferior talent in J. Shang #142 and A. Tabilo #82. Sinner is by far the superior talent here and should be able to take his 1st round match in straight sets 3-0.
