In the first match of the semifinals of the Abu Dhabi Open we have Brazil's B. Haddad Maia versus Switzerland's B. Bencic. Bencic has had an easier go at it in this tournament so far winning both her matches in straight sets after getting a first round bye. Haddad Maia has really had to work to get to the semis as she's had to go 3 set to win all of her matches. However, with that being said Hadda Maia has clearly played and beaten better players to this point, she's taken out Aussie Open finalist E. Rybakina ranked #10, Y. Putinseva ranked #45 and M. Bouzkova ranked #26, while Bencic has feasted on lower ranked players M. Kostyuk #57 & S. Rogers #46. This will be a tight match which I think Haddad Maia can win straight up but I will go with the +1.5 sets play as a hedge.

In the second match of the semifinals of the Abu Dhabi Open we have China's Q. Zheng versus Russia's L. Samsonova. Unlike the first semifinals match both these two opponents have beaten really good players to get here, Zheng has beaten #8 ranked D. Kasatkina & #12 J. Ostapenko while Samsonova has beaten #11 ranked V. Kurdermetova & #30 ranked B. Krejcikova. These two players have played each other in the past twice with each one getting a victory, I like the way the 20 year old Zheng has been playing in this tournament and especially impressed with the way she took care of business versus Kasatkina and Ostapenko. I like her to continue her momentum and take this match versus Samsonova.
