Jake's College Basketball Picks 1/8/23

Happy Sunday! I am heading back to Hoosier state today. Upon returning to Bloomington, I will be greeted by the Northwestern Wildcats against my Indiana Hoosiers. Although I am an Indiana University student, I will not let my fandom of the Hoosiers affect my pick. Northwestern has been solid this year and, just the other night, covered against a very good Illinois team. However, for the Indiana Hoosiers, this game is a must-win game to stay in contention at the top of the Big Ten. The Hoosiers did not look themselves after the injury to Race Thompson on Thursday. Race was the glue that kept the team together. However, they need to move to compete in the Big Ten. Trayce Jackson-Davis, Jordan Hood-Schifino, Miller Kopp, and now Trey Galloway all need to increase their level of play to bring a solid March Madness still run back to Bloomington. Indiana could have been better at ATS this year and has failed to meet the expectations many fans had for them at the beginning of the year. None of their losses are necessarily bad, but they are sitting at 1-2 in conference play, and they still have a gauntlet of a schedule. Being back in Assembly Hall and playing a mediocre Northwestern team, I expect the Hoosier faithful to be present and for the Indiana Hoosiers to have a solid win over Northwestern.
