Jake's College Basketball Picks 1/16/23

I hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend. I was 5-0 with NFL picks this weekend and 7-2 with college basketball picks. My New York Giants came out of Minnesota with a massive win! My model went 3-0, accurately predicting the Indiana, Michigan, and Rutgers games. A brutal beat by Creighton prevented an undefeated weekend, but overall, I am still up over ten units this weekend!

Purdue vs. Michigan State: Michigan State is coming off a tough loss on the road at Illinois, and Purdue is coming off a dominant win against Nebraska at home on Friday. The Spartans have won seven of their last eight with wins over Wisconsin, Michigan, and now a good Penn State team. The Spartans losing on Friday was devastating because they were in control of the whole game and let it slip away in the final minutes. The Spartans have a perfect opportunity to bounce back at home today against the number three team in the land. For Michigan State to have a chance to win, Tyson Walker and Jaden Akins need to have games from deep. Joey Hauser needs to body up against Zach Edey and force Edey into foul trouble. Rutgers was able to pull off the upset, and Ohio State was almost able to complete it because Edey was in trouble the whole game.

If Purdue plays the Purdue style of basketball, they will not have many issues. There is a reason why they are the number three team in the country, and a win today in a rowdy Breslin Center will help solidify their ranking moving forward. Purdue has been blessed with freshman phenom Braden Smith. I expect Loyer Fletcher to step up big if Purdue wants to pull off an upset. The primary key for Purdue is to stay out of foul trouble because that forces them to go to their bench, which is one of their weaknesses. It will be loud in Breslin, but if Purdue is displaced within itself, Purdue can walk out of Michigan State 17-1.
