MLB Bet of the Day | August 29, 2024

In this column, I’ll go through the BEST BET I’m seeing in the league today; this can be in a spread, a moneyline, an Over/Under, or a player prop.

OVERALL RECORD: 220-209-8, +5.35u
RECAP: Yesterday was just about as crappy as we could get, as we went 1-1 during the middle of the day, and got punched in the gut in the night slate, going 1-3 on the day in total and down over two units. We’re still punching well in August, and will be looking towards the last few days to build on our great month.

August 29th, 2024

We’re going dumpster diving today as we’re taking on the early game between the Tigers and the Angels, and we’re once again hammering the under after we lost our under bet yesterday. These two teams’ offenses are stalled in place, and the Tigers are looking to sweep the lesser Angels today at home.

Jack Kochanowicz is on the mound for the Angels, and he may be their only saving grace in their rotation this season. He’s come out swinging this season on the mound, and each of his last two games have gone under this total that we’re eyeing today. Kochanowicz has allowed only seven earned runs over his last three outings, in which he’s made it deep into the game in all three games; he’s eating up innings for the Angels, and that means that they don’t have to rely as heavily on their abysmal bullpen.

Keider Montero is on the mound for the Tigers, and he’s been much improved over this most recent stretch of games as well. In three out of his last four games, he’s allowed under two earned runs and gone five or more innings in each of them. In fact, over the last month, he’s allowed 1.18 WHIP for the opponents’ bats, and that means that he should be able to shut down this offense that’s literally running in place.

The Angels are scoring under three runs per game over their last ten games, getting on base just 25% of the time in that stretch, and has an average of .172. That’s absolutely horrid, and may make Montero look like an ace out there today.

Finally, the Tigers’ bats are hot, but they aren’t that hot consistently at home this season. They’re getting on base less than 30% of the time at home this season, and regression is going to be coming for this offense that hasn’t been able to string together good runs all season long; I know that the Angels’ pitching could make this team look like the Yankees, but I wholeheartedly believe in the young pitcher Kochanowicz to get the job done today.

Let’s take the under in the early game on this beautiful Thursday slate, and cash in this bet before the rest of the slate even begins.

PICK: Los Angeles / Detroit under 9
