Mitch's Lock Bet (MLB) of the Day | April 7, 2023
In this column, I’ll go through the BEST BET I’m seeing in the league today; this can be in a spread, a moneyline, an Over/Under, or a player prop. I’ll explain my reasoning below, and even add in a couple of other picks I also like for today. April 7, 2023PICK: Yankees MLI’ve bet against the Baltimore Orioles before, and I got screwed; but I really like the matchup today in Baltimore, as the Yankees have been red-hot against this Baltimore team as of late. We’ve got a matchup of two unproven pitchers in Dean Kremer and Clarke Schmidt, two pitchers that didn’t go past four innings in each of their first games of the season. While the Orioles have been pretty even to start the season, the Yankees have been pulling all the right strings. Gleyber Torres might be the hottest player on the planet currently, and he’s fared extremely well when playing against Kremer in his career, hitting .444 in nine plate appearances, with an extra base hit. Gleyber is also someone who, in his career, torches Baltimore; in his 69 games against the O’s, he has an average of .319 with nearly 80 hits and nearly 20 homers. He currently, this season, has a .471 average against righties. That’s incredible. Not to mention, the Yankees went 12-7 against the Orioles last season, and Aaron Judge has lit up Kremer in his career. Not many Orioles players have gone against Schmidt, which might be a relief for the pitcher who is trying to get back on track for the world’s biggest baseball team. Against Schmidt, in their total careers, the current Orioles lineup is hitting just .053 (with an xBA of .183), albeit in limited appearances. Yankees are used to starting their series off on the right foot, even if it’s on the road. They’re projected to be the best team in the league according to my model at the rate they’re playing, and I don’t mind giving this young pitcher another shot to earn his pinstripes - let’s roll with the Yankees to steal one on the road to begin the weekend series that they probably deem as a must-win to stay level in the division.
