MLB Bet of the Day | August 21, 2024

In this column, I’ll go through the BEST BET I’m seeing in the league today; this can be in a spread, a moneyline, an Over/Under, or a player prop.

RECAP: Well, they say that you’re only as good in this industry as the plays that you give away for free… but that may not be true, because we lose our MLB of the Day, but then cash in on four PRO plays to go 4-1 on the night. The Twins even were quite a sweat until the very end – and our plays have been looking good throughout this stretch. Let’s build on it today!

We’re going to fade the White Sox today, despite them having their ace on the mound. I do not care. The White Sox are the worst team in MLB history, and in the third game of their series’ this season, they’re 2-22 after they lose game two. They lost game two, and this trend has a 91% success rate this season… yeah, we have to take it.

It’s Logan Webb against Garrett Crochet, and when you look at these two pitchers’ numbers, Crochet clearly has the better rundown from top to bottom. But in general, this is a game that typically Webb dominates. This man is on a tear, and is averaging seven innings over his last five starts, allowing just 1.8 runs per game on that stretch. Crochet is averaging just three innings pitched, and nearly three runs over that stretch – yikes! Plus, he turns it over to a White Sox bullpen that has been on empty all season. Webb is clearly the better pitcher in this matchup today, despite what the advanced stats say. 

As well, this Giants offense has been a lot more dynamic, led by the bat of Heliot Ramos. They’ve scored nine runs through the first two games of this series compared to Chicago’s measly four, and both games so far this series have been decided by a margin that’s been two or more. While they haven’t been getting on base as much as we’d like over the past ten games, this is a White Sox bullpen that simply cannot be trusted in any real game situation. 

They’re allowing a WHIP near 2.00 in their last three games, and most of the Giants’ production has been against this bullpen; so, even if the Giants don’t get out to a blazing start, they are still a run line team in this scenario. The White Sox, despite being run line underdogs in most of their situations this season, have still lost a whopping 60% of those games.

That percentage, combined with the worst game-three record in the league, has the White Sox set up for disappointment once again. We’re taking a bet that may seem square, but we’re getting some good plus-money on things to go according to plan.
